Ann Palmer, my 4th great-grandmother, was the first of the Palmers to marry into my family and they came from Newdigate in the south of Surrey, England. The surname derives from the Middle English word for a pilgrim, suggesting that in the distant past one of Ann’s ancestors had made such a spiritual journey.
See where the Palmers fit in my family tree, from my grandmother Olive Wheatland.
- Ann Palmer and Daniel Tullett, my 4th great-grandparents.
- Ann came from Newdigate in Surrey and married thatcher and agricultural labourer Daniel Tullett in 1807. They later lived in Rusper, Sussex.
- William Palmer and Jane Hewitt, my 5th great-grandparents.
- William and his wife raised their children in and around Newdigate and Capel in Surrrey.
- William Palmer and Dinah Piggot, my 6th great-grandparents.
- William and Dinah married in a clandestine service in London and raised a large family in Newdigate.
I’ve yet to find much if anything about my 7th great-grandparents, other than the fact his name was William.
